Agbakoba Requests INEC’s Clarification of the Conditions for Winning the Presidential Election

Dr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) has requested that INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu make the public aware of the commission’s position on Section 134 of the 1999 Constitution.

In a letter dated January 17, 2022 and addressed to the INEC chairman, the former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) stated that his request for clarification on the provision of section was based on the section’s apparent ambiguity despite the fact that it deals with electoral processes.

The Senior Advocate claims that the election umpire has to clarify a provision in Section 134 of the 1999 Constitution that specifies the qualifications a candidate for president of Nigeria must meet.
