The major victors at the 2022 edition of the Africa Union’s All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), which took place on a night when Africa’s biggest musicians were conspicuously absent, were afrobeats leaders Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid.

Fans in the host city of Dakar, Senegal, were miffed when the trio accepted their awards out of town.

The self-proclaimed African Giant won the two major awards, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year, while his fellow countryman and Grammy winner Wizkid took home the trophy for Best West African Male.

In the Best African Collaboration and Best African Electro categories, Davido received three golden microphones.

The remaining winners of Nigerian descent included Tems, DJ Consequence, and former YBNL vocalist Adekunle Gold.

For their smash song “High,” Adekunle Gold and Davido took home the Best African Pop award, while Adekunle Gold also won Best Artiste in African Contemporary on his own.

Tems received the Golden Microphone for Best Soundtrack for her contribution on the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” track.
